The gold

Imperial Assassin

"Give me the money, I will buy them candies!"

- An Imperial Assassin

Gold! Pieces of gold! Money! You need gold in Disciples. Nothing is free. Everything is expensive.

You need gold to buy troops, to upgrade you capital or your cities. You need gold to buy better artifacts or scrolls that are not in your magic book at the merchant shops. You need gold to buy the healing and reviving potions that will save the life of your units and leaders or to buy the potions that will protect and immune your troops. The merchants will not do you any credit, the life of heroes is too short ! You need a lot of gold to train your troops and gain fast experience at the training camps.

You will need gold for the alliances with the other races; if they are stronger than you, you need to replenish their treasures with pure gold before they accept to acknowledge that you even exist. You need gold to hire mercenaries that could be of great help in some situations when you are too far from a city or when they have an ability that your units do not have like healing your troops in battles.

You get gold by owning gold mines. To own the gold mines, the land under the mine has to be your type of land. If not you have to hire a rod planter that will go around the map planting your rods near the mines that will then belong to you. The life of a rod planter is dangerous and often short, you have to protect them or try to upgrade them a little. If not, you will spend more money hiring new ones that the money they will get back to you.

You get gold by selling unused items or valuable items if you found some and sometimes, but not always, by looting ruins. You can also, for some players, get gold by hiring thieves that will resell the items that they had stolen. I strongly recommend not to use this option, unless you are in a real bad situation, it will rapidly spoil the fun of the game.

You always have to use your resources in gold wisely in Disciples : Dark Prophecy and Sacred Lands. Your have to think your strategy in relation with the gold you can possess in a saga or a scenario. If you spend your gold the wrong way, you will soon find yourself in a bad situation and hoping that you had save a little!
