Winter 2003, Strategy First Inc. announced two expansions for Disciples II : Guardians of Light (July 2003) and Servants of the Dark (August 2003). Those two (2) expansions sold separately would combined together make the whole original Disciples 2 available to the new players. New high levels units had been added, four (4) by expansions if I recall. Those expansions are for more experienced players and start with a level 10 leader, available with the game. A beginner can start with the original sagas with a lower level a difficulty, get a custom level 10 or 11 leader and move to the higher sagas when he feels comfortable with the Disciples.
A RMG (random map generator) had been added in the expansions. This RMG will designed the basic (lands, water, structures, etc.) only, some final touch by the map makers is necessary to make a playable scenario and to add events.
Guardians of the Light contains the original sagas plus a mini saga for the "Light Races" plus a few new scenarios based on those races. For those, who are not sure, the "Light Races" are the Empire and the Mountain Clan. I know it is not fair for Mortis and I, too, have doubts about the good intentions of the Empire's Inquisitors... There is a little upgrade for GOL but you don't need it to play this expansion.
Servants of the Dark contains the original sagas plus a mini saga for the "Dark Races" plus a few new scenarios based on those races. For those, who are not sure, the "Dark Races" are the Legions of the Damned and the Undead Horde. I know it is not fair for Mortis (take 2!). What make you think that Wotan is the good guy, he is drunk 99% of the time! and I have doubts about the bad intentions of the Bethrezen who only wants to go back to Heaven after all...
Since winter 2004, you can get Guardians of the Light and Servants of the Dark in a single expansion : Gallean's Return. You get the all original sagas from Dark Prophecy, and the sagas from both GOTL and SOTD. Now Strategy First Inc. is also offering the possibility to get the games of the Disciples Series directly online.
Rise of the Elves, Fall 2003, finally brings the Elven race to the players with the Elven Alliance. We get leaders, a new capital, new and old units, new spells and a saga with eight (8) chapters like the original D2, plus new neutral units and bosses. ROTE has the Wild and the Noble Elves and their god is, guess who!, Gallean, for good or revenge. Anyway, everybody knows that I am not a fan of Gallean. This said, ROTE is a plus for the long time players with new characters like the classy Dark Elves, new attacks like critical strike and blister and new strategies. We follow the story from the point of the Noble and/or the Wild Elves. We get a new and real nice capital with animations like DSL. SFI is also talking about new events for the editor with huge official maps.
A nice addition is the classy Dark Elves as a neutral dark race, I would love to have them as a race. And, and if, you play the final chapter, you will start hearing rumors about Gromdok and the Greenskins.
The sagas from Disciples 2 : Dark Prophecy are included for the new fans, but not the sagas from Gallean's Return (SOTD and GOTL).
A Multimedia Portfolio is included in the Expansions Packs. You get some original art concepts, enlarged character portraits, wallpapers and art sources files.
